Help Rescue
Have you ever thought about what it might be like to be one of hundreds of people that volunteer their time to “Rescue” animals?
Imagine…
Watching 10 dogs exit the rescue vehicle, that according to some, were not supposed to be alive. They were just rescued from their horrible fate. Euthanasia, at a high-kill shelter or inhumane treatment in their so-called homes. If they were lucky to have breakfast that morning, it was supposed to have been their last meal. They were scheduled to die today. But now they live.
A little scared, a little shy, a little shaken.
Some will look at you knowing, that as tough as it has been for them, being abandoned, abused, unwanted, neglected or unloved, it’s over. They will now forever be treated with the respect and dignity that they deserve. They gently wag their tail, lick your hand. Sometimes you see a twinkle of hope in their wide eyes. Hope that finally everything might reallybe alright!

Hundreds of people involved in rescue donate their time and hard earned money to save these precious lives. For a few of the lucky ones, being rescued means, they are pulled from deaths door. They are brought to temporary housings, even to people’s homes. Anywhere they can be held and safe until transport is available. Some volunteers have to spend their own money to pay for vaccinations, blood tests, vetting and/or emergency veterinary care as well as a variety of additional things a pet may need. Some volunteers are even paying out of their own pockets to treat hundreds of pound dogs for heartworm. They know with the vast amount of animals being killed, how could this one sweet heartworm + dog compete for his life being hindered in such a way?! With your help, we can change this…
Once an animal is rescued, well that’s not it. The transport people “are on”!
Volunteers set up legs of transports which could span from one side of the country to the other, to get the animals to safety. There are entire networks of people donating much more time than even a full time job might require, to this fight. E-mails are flying, phones are ringing… Who has to be pulled first? Whose time is up? Who is the most urgent? Who is the safest for a couple more days?...
The animals are packed up with their belongings if any (sometimes they come with little individual doggie/kitty suitcases with their favorite toys from the pounds, their paperwork, rabies tags and sometimes a special note from the person who loved them the most and helped to get them out). They are situated into crates, loaded in vans or trucks, and they are off!
While it is a very taxing drive, they stop every couple hours to meet their new rescuer, who picks up where the last left off, transferring them from one vehicle to another. It is all worth it in the long run. They will soon be to safety.
Would you be interested in being involved in one of the most rewarding experiences there is?
With your help, you can sponsor a rescue, a transport, well, a life. By sponsoring a rescue, you will have pulled that one special animal off of death row, and given them life. They will not only receive life, but receive the medical care they need, spayed or neutered and get them into the loving, forever homes that they deserve.

Then, you will have become rescue.
All you have to do is help rescue just one!
Please consider helping with transport.
There are a few ways you can contribute to a transport. Each transport of animals cost IAR approximately $400 dollars. That amount will transport at least 30 dogs and cats to rescue in no-kill shelters and organizations in the Chicagoland area where they are made available for adoption.
Do you like to drive? Please consider being a transporter. legs of transports may be as little as a 1-2 hour drive. The choice is up to you. However much time you are able to donate to animal rescue.
Illinois Animal Rescue is need of vans to transport the animals to safety. Please consider donating a gently used van to our fight to rescue the animals. IAR's 501(c)(3) is pending.
Do you or anyone you know own a plane? Often animals are transported by air. The flights are much shorter and less stressful then the long transports, especially for the small puppies being pulled off death row. The owners of airplanes donate their plane, fuel, and a pilot, all to save animals lives, to rescue. Does someone you know need some extra flying hours?

This is Geronimo. Geronimo was never scheduled to be on the transport, but I believed someone loved him very much. When asking who the mystery dog, on the transports, name was, They answered,
“Well, he knew how lucky the dogs being pulled off of death row where, so he yelled “GERONIMO!!” and jumped on the truck!
Geronimo was adopted from a no-kill shelter in northern Illinois to a wonderful family shortly after “jumping on the truck” !
